Two different kinds of protests
A Denmark news paper published a cartoon of Prophet Mohammad carrying a missile, and it has led to worldwide anguish of the muslim community and here in Karnataka, the Dalit Community is demanding the head of our Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Yediyurappa for having temporariy removing the portrait of Bharat Ratna Dr. B R Ambedkar from his office.
In the first case it is surely the atrocity of the journalists. It looks like the only place where you can do whatever you want without thinking of the sentiments of the public is journalism. Too much of freedom has brought about the murder of personalities for popularity. Even the Indian journals have not stayed behind. There have been too many un-necessary publishings of the lives of the people who are honoured and respected by many.
A person who is esteemed as high as prophet Mohammad cannot be taken for granted. I can understand the feelings of the muslim community. They have every reason to protest. The cartoon should be condemned not only by the muslim community but also by every rational human being. What does the Cartoon mean to say, Prophet Mohammad brought the message of terrorism from the almighty? or that all the Muslims are terrorists? Definitely we have to condemn such an indignification of a human being who is considered as a prophet.
In our state we are also having a protest but under questionable
circumstances, the Dalits are calling for
the head of Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Yediyurappa for removing the portrait
of Dr. B R Ambedkar for the supposed reason of cleaning the
office room. The issue has taken quite a serious turn and people have
gone as far as burning the effigies of the Deputy Chief Minister.
I really dont understand the reason for the protest and moreso when
Mr. Yediyuraapa himself has apologized for any possible sentimental hurt that the
incident has caused to the Dalits. The protest shows the protestors [I am
not sure whether all of them are Dalits] in very poor light. It shows
lack of intellectual maturity and intense fanaticism.
Anybody who disrespects Dr. Ambedkar must no doubt be condemned. A true champion of the cause of the Dalits should no doubt be respected. But Ambedkar need not be my god. It is not necessary that everybody has to worship Dr. Ambedkar. There is no such rule and there can not be. Even the the same Gods are not worshipped by everybody. And in certain cases, people like Buddha doesnt care for the existence of god itself. That doesnt make Buddha a bad man.
It is the time that people behave more responsibly. And also the people who are trying to gain a political mileage by supporting such protests must stop cheating themselves and stop misleading the public. It is not even known now how the news came outside.
